Scholarships
EAA Chapter 1088 supports local aviation scholars through a variety of scholarship programs. Our Scholarships are funded through various fund raising methods such as “Gillespie County Airfield” hat sales, raffles, and donations from members and the local community.
-
EAA Chapter 1088 is a nonprofit organization dedicated to growing participation in aviation. Scholarship funds are made possible through the generosity of chapter members, whose donations and purchases of chapter ball caps—sold during monthly meetings and at the Fredericksburg FBO—help support aspiring pilots.
-
Today, the aviation industry faces a significant shortage of commercial pilots, while the number of recreational pilots continues to decline. One of the biggest barriers is the cost of flight training. Earning a private pilot certificate can cost up to $14,000, with advanced ratings requiring many thousands of dollars more.
-
In addition to financial challenges, students often face lengthy delays in completing their training due to a nationwide shortage of Designated Pilot Examiners (DPEs). These delays can leave pilots waiting months for a checkride while continuing to pay for aircraft rentals and instruction to remain proficient. Weather-related cancellations can further extend the process and increase training costs.
